KARACHI: Hubco Green (Pvt) Limited (HGL), a subsidiary of The Hub Power Company Limited, in collaboration with Pakistan State Oil (PSO), has inaugurated its first new energy vehicle (NEV) fast-charging station on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2), marking a significant step in the country’s electric mobility transition.
Announced via press release on Wednesday, the state-of-the-art station is located at the Magic River Rest Stop and features PSO’s modern Experience Hub, which includes NEV charging facilities, a contemporary Vibe Cafe, and a retail store.
The launch is part of Hubco Green’s strategic entry into Pakistan’s NEV market in partnership with BYD Pakistan—Mega Motor Company (MMC). The broader vision includes a nationwide NEV charging network with fast-charging stations placed every 200 kilometers along the Karachi-Peshawar corridor, aimed at eliminating range anxiety and enabling long-distance electric travel.
“Hubco Green is our forward-looking investment in Pakistan’s future mobility,” said Kamran Kamal, CEO of Hubco. “We are committed to building the NEV infrastructure that matters most, in partnership with global leaders.”
Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales & Strategy at BYD-MMC, added, “As the world’s top NEV manufacturer, BYD is proud to support Pakistan’s shift to electric mobility. This is the first of many charging points along key intercity routes. Our cutting-edge fast-charging technology ensures convenience and minimal wait times.”
PSO’s Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Mohsin Mangi highlighted the evolving retail network: “This project is a major step in our journey to create clean-energy hubs. We are committed to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing travel experiences through digital innovations like VIBE and the Fuelink app.”
The charging station features a 60kW fast charger, capable of simultaneously charging two vehicles. For example, the BYD Atto 3 can charge to 50% in under 30 minutes—providing a range of 160–200km.
The initiative marks a key milestone in building Pakistan’s EV ecosystem and accelerating the country’s transition to sustainable, low-emission transport.
